Australia has just won the World Barista Championship in Melbourne, supporting the strength of the Australian Coffee Industry.
Congratulations to Anthony Douglas from Axil Coffee for taking out the World Champion Barista title for 2022.
I would also like to congratulate David and Zoe Makin, founders of Axil coffee on their 18 year journey to take out this honor. I was part of the cheer squad in Copenhagen in 2006 where David missed out by only a few points to become runner up in the worlds. Congrats to the team at the Melbourne International Coffee Expo with running an event that brought the industry together again. Now it’s our turn with Golden Bean!  Come along and catch up with your coffee-enthused friends. You can participate by attending the event - if you enter six coffees you will receive a free attendee ticket, volunteer as a barista or runner, or purchase a delegate ticket.
Now it’s your chance as a coffee roaster to show off your skill set in the largest coffee roasting competition in the world. We are three weeks away from this years’ Golden Bean and are expecting a big bounce back with entries. We’ve just finished the North American competition where we had a record number of entries and attendees. Additionally, this years’ Golden Bean Australasia winner will fly to Hawaii to compete against the best of North America 2022.
Will you be World Champion?
For the first time, Golden Bean Australasia 2022 have invited roasters in Asia to participate, making this event more of a global competition. We are also thrilled to see our borders open to all states and countries after two and a half years of restrictions, making the attendance easier for all to come along, network and learn from the best in the industry. It’s going to be exciting to see the industry reignite and get the Golden Bean Family back together fully.
This years’ program will be fantastic, comprising some top inclusions for attending delegates/judges. Our Speaker Sessions are back on and we even have a few openings for new topics and on-trend educational subjects.  We also have a great line-up of Green Bean Suppliers from all over the globe who are ready to cup with attending roasters and be involved in direct business.
The good news is, we are bringing back the Awards Night on the Saturday of the event, so we will see those swinging medals again. This years’ fun theme is ‘Eighties’, so pull out the big hair and shoulder pads! We have trialed this concept at our North American event and we saw some great costumes, from Slash to MC Hammer.
